Juniors

The Juniors are affiliated with the Peel District Football Association and compete against other clubs within the Peel region. There are12 clubs in total. The juniors are split into two categroeis;

  1. Juniors – years 3 to 6
  2. Youth – years 7 to 12

Juniors have modified rules, oval sizes and do not score. Once the players reach Youth they will be full rules, score for premiership points and are played on full size ovals.

All age groups play on a Saturday and game times vary, although typically the lower age groups will start at the earlier time slots and the youth starting later. The earliest games are 8am and the latest roughly 1:30pm. Some youth teams will occasionally get the chance to play a night game under lights. Ground locations and times will be available weekly on the fixtures.

Junior Football Program Years 3 to 5

The aim of this program is to provide children in this age group with a fun, safe and positive experience through a well-structured match program that considers the maturity level of their motor, cognitive, social and emotional skills.  The emphasis at this age level is the further development of basic game skills (kicking, hand-balling, marking, gathering, evasion and checking) and learning technical and tactical concepts. The match program for this age group provides further opportunities to develop game skills and the tactical principles of gaining possession, applying pressure, utilising space and positional play.

Junior Football Program Year 6

Children in this age group are to be provided with a fun, safe and positive experience, through a well-structured match program that considers the level of maturity in their motor, cognitive, social and emotional skills. The consolidation of basic game skills is still the focus at this age level rather than competition and winning, while further developing technical and tactical concepts. These concepts include positional skills and basic performance enhancing techniques such as: warm-up, cool-down, nutrition, hydration, recovery and goal setting.

Youth Football Year 7 to 12

By year 7 the players are playing on full sized grounds and under the  Laws of Australian Football with only minor modifications.  The boys are introduced to some of the tactics and strategies they will see being played at the elite level.   It is at this stage that talented youth players may be identified to participate in district football programs as part of their pathway to the senior football.

By year 8 the full Laws of Australian Football are applied and players will play the same brand of football they see being played at the elite level. It is at this stage that talented youth players may be identified to participate in the Peel District and State underage football programs as part of their pathway to senior football.
